Where to stay for ACL Fest 2026.

The short answer: stay south of the river, within about two miles of Zilker Park, and your whole ACL weekend gets easier. Zilker/Barton Hills lets you walk in through the neighborhood entrance, South Lamar and SoCo put you 20–30 minutes on foot from the gates with actual restaurants for recovery, and downtown works if you make peace with the shuttle. ACL Fest 2026 runs two weekends — October 2–4 and October 9–11 — and it's the festival's 25th year, so rooms near the park are already tightening. Here's how to pick.

ACL 2026, the basics

Zilker Park, nine stages, 100+ acts per weekend. This year's headliners include Charli XCX, Lorde, Twenty One Pilots, RÜFÜS DU SOL, The xx, and Skrillex, with Kings of Leon anchoring weekend two. GA passes start at $325 (as of August 2026); GA+ starts at $700 if shade and real bathrooms matter to you, and honestly, by day three they might. Gates typically open around 11am–noon, headliners wrap by 10pm sharp — Austin's curfew is non-negotiable, so the after-show migration happens all at once. The neighborhoods, ranked for ACL

Zilker & Barton Hills — walk in, walk home

The neighborhood directly around the park is the obvious winner and priced like it. You enter through the Barton Springs side, you leave when you want, and the 60-minute rideshare scrum after the headliner is somebody else's problem. If a house here fits your budget, stop reading and take it. The trade-off is that the neighborhood itself goes full festival-town for both weekends — street parking evaporates and your quiet cul-de-sac won't be.

South Lamar — the local's pick

SoLa is a 20–25 minute walk or a ten-minute bike ride from the gates, and it's where you actually want to exist between sets: Alamo Drafthouse for the rest-day movie, Broken Spoke if you want two-stepping as a palate cleanser, and a taco line for every hangover. South Congress — walkable, with a scene of its own

SoCo runs about 25–30 minutes on foot to Zilker, or a quick scooter ride down Barton Springs Road. You're trading a little distance for the best shopping-and-restaurants stretch in town — vintage boots, the mural photos, a proper dinner after the fest instead of a food-truck fourth meal. East Austin — cheaper nights, better bars

The east side is not walking distance — you're looking at a bike ride across the pedestrian bridge or a shuttle-plus-walk combo. What it gets you: the best cocktail bars and late-night food in the city for your after-fest hours, and rates that don't spike as viciously. Downtown — shuttle territory

Downtown works on pure logistics: the free official shuttle runs from Republic Square (4th & San Antonio) to the Barton Springs entrance all day, and you're stumbling distance from your bed when it drops you back. The catch is everything else — downtown rates during ACL are the highest in the city, and Dirty 6th on a festival Saturday is a lot. Fine for a first-timer crew that wants the full Austin-weekend blowout; wrong for anyone hoping to sleep before 2am.

Getting in and out of Zilker (there is no parking)

Plan around this: Zilker Park has no festival parking. None. Your options, in order of sanity:

Walk or bike. The Butler hike-and-bike trail delivers you to the park from either side of the river, and bike parking sits on Stratford Drive past the MoPac pedestrian bridge and on Azie Morton Road. Bring lights for the ride home — it's genuinely dark on the trail after 10pm.

The free shuttle. Republic Square to Barton Springs entrance, starting noon Friday and 11am weekends. Free with a wristband. The morning ride is painless; the post-headliner line is long but moves — usually faster than the rideshare lot, and always cheaper.

Rideshare, with expectations set. After the headliners, waits can pass an hour with 3–4x surge. The move locals use: walk 10–15 minutes away from the park — across the pedestrian bridge, or east past South Lamar — before you request. You skip the geofenced pickup maze and the surge softens with every block.

When to book for ACL 2026

Festival-week price surges in Austin are real — the same house can double for ACL weekends. Close-in homes for October book up by late spring; by August you're choosing between what's left near the park or better value a neighborhood further out. Weekend two historically books a touch lighter than weekend one, so if you're price-sensitive and flexible, start there.
